Overview

ARECA Insurance Exchange (ARECA) is a member-owned and member-governed insurance company founded in 1983 by a group of Alaska electric utilities belonging to the trade association known then as the Alaska Rural Electric Cooperative Association. Alaska Power Association (APA), which changed its name from the Alaska Rural Electric Cooperative Association in 2003, is the sister organization to ARECA Insurance Exchange.

ARECA specializes in insuring Alaska’s non-profit electric and telecom utilities, and provides a full complement of insurance coverages tailored to the unique needs of Alaska utilities.

Governance

The ARECA Insurance Exchange Board of Trustees comprises representatives selected by subscribers that choose to have representation on the board.

ARECA Insurance Exchange is managed by the seven-member ARECA Insurance Exchange Board of Trustees’ Executive Committee and attorney-in-fact, ARECA Insurance Management, Inc. (AIM). Members of the ARECA Executive Committee and AIM Board of Directors, which are the same governing body, are elected by the Board of Trustees at the organizational annual meeting
